Assertion: Ear muscles of external ear in man are poorly developed.

Reason: These muscles are useful which move external ear freely to detect sound efficiently.

  1. The external ear in humans is a vestigial organ and is poorly developed.
  2. It comprises of pinna or auricle whose muscles are useless as in many mammals these muscles are used to move their pinnae to collect the sound waves and focus their hearing in a certain direction.

Reason statement :

  1. Such function is absent in human pinna.
  2. It is just protective and increases the efficiency of hearing.

Final answer :

(c) If Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
