Question

Directions: The following question consists of two statements one labeled as “ Assertion” and the other as “Reason”.You have to examine these two statements carefully and select the correct answer to the question from the given options.

Assertion(A): For all values of 𝑘, (−𝟑/𝟐, 𝒌) is a solution of the linear equation 𝟐𝒙 + 𝟑 = 𝟎.
Reason(R): The linear equation 𝒂𝒙 + 𝒃 = 𝟎 can be expressed as a linear equation in two variables as 𝒂𝒙 + 𝒚 + 𝒃 = 𝟎.

(a) Both Assertion and Reason are true and the Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.
(b) Both Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is not a correct explanation of Assertion.
(c) The Assertion is true and the Reason is false.
(d) The Assertion is false and the Reason is true.

Solution

Consider the assertion.
2x+3=0
2(3/2)+3=3+3=0
For any value of 𝒌, (−𝟑/𝟐, 𝒌) is a solution of the linear equation 𝟐𝒙 + 𝟑 = 𝟎.
Hence, the assertion is correct.

Now, consider the reason.
The linear equation 𝒂𝒙 + 𝒃 = 𝟎 can be expressed as a linear equation in two variables as 𝒂𝒙 + 0𝒚 + 𝒃 = 𝟎.
Hence, the reason is incorrect.

Hence, the correct option is (c).
