Question

Disadvantages of cross pollination.

Open in App
Solution

Cross-pollination is the process of transferring pollen grains between two different plants, i.e. pollen grains are transferred from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower of another plant. This method leads to an increase in genetic diversity as different flowers will share and combine their genetic information to create unique offspring.

Disadvantages of cross-pollination are:

  • Pollination may fail due to distance barriers.
  • The uncertainty will always be there as the cross-pollination is dependent on the agents.
  • More wastage of pollen.
