The Supreme Court is the Apex Court of India. It not only succeeded the Federal Court of India but also replaced the British Privy Council as the highest court of appeal. It is primarily the court of appeal and has the power to hear appeals against the judgment of the lower courts. It exercises wide appellate jurisdiction. The appellate power of the Supreme court can be classified as:
1)Appeal in Constitutional matters
2)Appeal in civil matters.
3) Appeal in criminal matters
4)Appeal by Special Leave (discretionary power)
