Natural resources are Earth-derived materials that are used to sustain life and meet human requirements.

Three issues arise as a result of indiscriminate usage of natural resources are:

Human indiscriminate exploitation of resources has resulted in economic, societal, and environmental issues. The following are the key issues that have evolved as a result of over-exploitation, irrational consumption, and indiscriminate resource use:

  1. Resources are being depleted to satisfy the greed of a few selfish individuals.
  2. The concentration of wealth in a few hands has resulted in societal segregation into affluent and poor. Society is divided into two groups: those who have and those who have not.
  3. Environmental concerns such as global warming, ozone layer depletion, pollution, and land degradation have resulted from indiscriminate and unrestrained resource extraction with no regard for the future.
