Solution

Tropic Movements:

  1. The growth movement occurring in plants according to the direction of an external stimulus is known as the tropic movement.
  2. Phototropism, geotropism, and hydrotropism are some of the tropic movements exhibited by plants.

Types of Tropic Movements:

Phototropism:

  1. Phototropism is the movement of growth that occurs according to the direction of light.
  2. An example is the bending of a sunflower in the direction of sunlight.

Geotropism:

  1. Geotropism is the movement of growth that occurs according to the gravitational pull.
  2. The roots and shoots of the plant show geotropism.
  3. The roots grow downwards, showing positive geotropism, while the shoot grows upwards, showing negative geotropism.

Hydrotropism:

  1. Hydrotropism is the movement of growth that occurs according to the unidirectional stimulus of water.
  2. The radicles of the germinating seeds bend towards the moist soil due to hydrotropism.
