  • After the Mughals had cheated Shivaji and put him under house arrest, he decided to wage an aggressive attack on the Mughals.
  • He had a master plan in place where he wanted to get back what the Mughals had taken away from him.
  • He planned on capturing the forts and the territories that were in the Deccan areas, under the rule of the Mughals.
  • He planned on capturing them at the same time. This was done to distract the Mughal armies and divide them.
  • Shivaji was successful in recapturing several forts such as forts in Sinhgad, Purandar, Lohagad, Mahuli, Karnala and Rohinda.
  • He even attacked Surat for the second time and defeated the Mughal Sardar, Daudkhan.
  • Shivaji’s sardar, Moropant Pingale was able to capture Triambakgad near Nashik.
  • By the end of this, Shivaji was able to recapture 24 forts in a matter of just four months.
