Question

Discuss in brief the variation on atmospheric pressure with altitude.Do changes in temperature also cause a change in atmospheric pressure?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student, With change in altitude, the atmospheric pressure decreases. This is seen because the amount of gas molecules in air is less at higher altitudes and so atmospheric pressure decreases. Temperature also affects the pressure of air. This is seen because the gas molecules move faster at higher temperature and so, the atmospheric air pressure increases due to higher kinetic energy. You would read more about kinetic energy and temperature in relation to pressure in your higher classes. Regards
