Oil spills are one of the major contributors to water pollution. Oil spilled from ships or due to leakages from oil wells spreads on the surface of water. It disastrously affects organisms associated with marine ecosystems. The crude oil spilled on the water surface reduces oxygen supply in the water body. Also, it is toxic and leads to death of fishes and birds. Foragers such as pelicans and under water feeders such as cormorants are the most grievously affected birds of all the organisms affected by oil spills.
