Question

Discuss the continuity of the following function, at x=0.
f(x)=x|x|, for x0
=1, for x=0

Open in App
Solution

Left hand limit =limx0x|x|=limx0xx=1

And right hand limit =limx0+x|x|=limx0+xx=1

Clearly LHL and RHL are not same
Hence above function is not continuous at x=0

Note: |x|={x,x0x,x<0
