Discuss the electronic configuration of noble gases.

Open in App
Solution

Noble gases:

  1. Noble gases are the elements that have completely filled the valence shells i.e. their octets are completed.
  2. Noble gases are also known as rare elements.
  3. Noble gases are Helium (He), Neon (Ne), Argon (Ar), Krypton (Kr), Xenon (Xe) and Radon (Rn).

Electronic configuration of noble gases:

  1. All the noble gases have completely filled valence shells.
  2. The electronic configuration for each noble gas is given as follows:
Noble gasesAtomic SymbolAtomic numberElectronic configuration
Helium(He)22
Neon(Ne)102, 8
Argon(Ar)182, 8, 8
Krypton(Kr)362, 8, 18, 8
Xenon(Xe)542, 8, 18, 18, 8
Radon(Rn)862, 8, 18, 32,18, 8
