Solution

(a) The play takes place in London. The year is 1844.

(b) At the beginning of the play, we know that Scrooge does not like Christmas because he tells the people who are singing carols to stop. Also, the narrator states that there was no happy expression on Scrooge’s face.

(c) Joseph Marley was his business partner. He appears to Scrooge as a grey, dim figure of a man dragging heavy chains. He tells Scrooge that he (Scrooge) would be haunted by three spirits that night.
