Solution

Instructions: For answering this question, we need to explain the following points:
  • Early life of Gautama Buddha
  • Enlightenment of Buddha
  • First sermon of Buddha
Solution: Gautama Buddha was born in 563 BC at Lumbini, located in present day Nepal. His birth name was Siddharth. He left his home and comforts of life to find the reasons for the sorrow and sufferings in human life. This event is known as the Great Renunciation.
While sitting in deep meditation under a peepal tree at Uruvela at Gaya in Bihar, he became Buddha or the enlightened one.
Buddha gave his first sermon or religious lecture at Sarnath near Varanasi. His teachings in the first sermon are termed as dhamma. In this sermon, he set in motion the wheel of dhamma and hence, this event came to be known as the Dharma Chakra Pravartana.
