Kidneys always maintain the composition while removing waste from the blood.
The percentage of water and salts are regulated to maintain the internal balance. This is called osmoregulation.
Role of hormones in osmoregulation:
Hormones play a vital role in osmoregulation by controlling the amount of urine formed.
The movement of water and sodium ions in and out of the nephron is controlled by hormones.
Antidiuretic Hormone or Vasopressin acts on the distal convoluted tubule and the collecting duct and thus controls the volume of urine formed.
More amount of water in the blood causes a decrease of ADH hormone thus lowering the permeability of DCT and collecting duct and thus decreasing the reabsorption of water and vice versa.
