Structure and composition of subordinate courts:
  • Session’s Judge Court: This is the highest court at the district level.
  • It is led by a Session’s judge who is sometimes assisted by an additional session’s judge, in case of heavy workload.
  • These judges are appointed by the Governor of the state upon consultation with the Chief Justice of the state high court.
  • Subordinate courts: They work under the Session’s Judge Court.
  • They are headed by a Chief Judicial Magistrate or Judicial Magistrate of first or second class.
  • Judicial Magistrates are appointed by the Chief Justice of the High Court on the recommendation of the State Public Service Commission.
  • An advocate with 3 years experience is eligible to become a magistrate after clearing the exam.
