The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped, reddish-brown organs about the size of a fist. They are covered by the renal capsule(a thin membranous sheath that covers the outer surface of each kidney).
Location:
The kidneys are located just below the stomach, one on either side of the vertebral column.
Functions :
- Elimination of toxic substances.
- Regulation of water balance.
- Regulation of blood pressure.
- Excretion of nitrogenous waste products.
- Helps in osmoregulation.
