(a) Probably, the grandfather was carried away by some wild animal.

(b)Grandmother decided to continue the journey without Grandfather because the people had got up to leave and she did not want the children to be left alone in the unsafe forest.

(c) It is not clear as to what exactly the narrator felt when they continued without Grandfather. Surely, she would have been sad. However, what is clearly pointed is her fear at the thought of being left all alone in the forest, where the police or the wild animals could find them. Her fear and her natural inclination for survival perhaps overpowered her concern for her missing grandfather.
