Dear Student

Three international developments in the world which took place during 1950s and 1960s are as follows :

1951 :
  • The UNIVAC ( UNIVersal Automatic Computer.) is introduced as the first commercial computer. It's sold by Remington Rand, a typewriter maker.
1953 :
  • The Korean War ends after three years of unrestricted fighting. An armistice is signed and the boundary between North and South Korea is drawn at the 38th parallel.
1969 :
  • Apollo 11 lands on the moon. More than 100 million people watch on television around the world as U.S. astronaut Neil Armstrong ( first man to step on the moon ) steps onto the surface.
  • In computer technology, the microprocessor is invented. This miniature set of integrated circuits makes possible the computer revolution. Also, the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) goes online. This decentralized computer communications network is the forerunner of the Internet.
