Solution

The correct option is A (i) PhCH2OH, HCOOH, (ii) Ph2CH2OOCH
Benzaldehyde and formaldehyde undergo cannizzaro reaction when heated together in presence of KOH. Benzaldehyde is reduced to benzyl alcohol and formaldehyde is oxidized to formic acid. Thus (i) is a mixture of benzyl alcohol and formic acid PhCH2OH+HCOOH.
When this mixture is heated in presence of KOH, esterification reaction forms benzyl formate HCOOCH2Ph
