Dear student,
Mitotic prophase is a comparatively short phase.
The main events include:
Presence of two identical copies or sister chromatids which are attached at the centromere.
Condensation of chromosomes.
The movement of centrosomes mitotic spindle formation
Nuclei begin to break down.
Absence of crossing over, synopsis, chiasma, and recombination
Prophase 1 of meiosis is a long phase.
During prophase 1 following events occurs
Condensation of chromosomes
Occurrence of sister chromatids
Pairing of homologous chromosomes
Formation of synaptonemal complex or tetrad
Genetic exchange between non-sister chromatids or crossing over occurs
Formation of chiasmata
Beginning of spindle apparatus formation
Prophase 2 is almost similar to mitotic prophase. But in prophase 2, haploid number of chromosomes are involved.
