Question

Distinguish between sound and radio waves of the same frequency.

Open in App
Solution

Sound waves Radio waves
They are mechanical waves which require a material medium for their propagation They are electromagnetic waves which do not require any medium for their propagation
They are longitudinal in nature in which the particles vibrate in a direction parallel to the direction of propagation They are transverse in nature in which the particles vibrate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of propagation
They cannot be polarised They can be polarised
They are very slow as compared to radio waves They are very fast as compared to sound waves
Since wavelength=speedfrequency, even if their frequency is same as radio waves, their wavelength will be very small as compared to radio waves Since wavelength=speedfrequency, even if their frequency is same as sound waves, their wavelength will be very big as compared
to sound waves
