Solution

a) Sodium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide on reaction with calcium salt give a milky white precipitate of Ca(OH)2, while lead salt solution gives chalky white precipitate of Pb(OH)2. [1 Mark]

(b) Sodium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide on reaction with lead salt give brown coloured precipitate, and with zinc, a white gelatin-like precipitate is formed. [1 Mark]

(c) Sodium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide on reaction with copper salt give pale blue coloured precipitate, and with ferrous salt solution, a dirty green coloured precipitate is formed. [1 Mark]

(d) Sodium hydroxide and ammonium hydroxide on reaction with Fe(II) salt give dirty green coloured precipitate, while with Fe(III) salt solution it forms a reddish brown insoluble precipitate. [1 Mark]
