(e) Ferrous nitrate and lead nitrate.

Open in App
Solution

  • Sodium hydroxide on reaction with Fe (II) nitrate gives a dirty green Fe(OH)2 precipitate which is insoluble, while with lead nitrate it forms a white Pb(OH)2 precipitate which is soluble in excess of NaOH.

Pb(NO3)2+2NaOHPb(OH)2+2NaNO3
(colourless) (white ppt.)

Fe(NO3)2+2NaOHFe(OH)2+2NaNO3
(pale green) (dirty green ppt.)

  • Ammonium hydroxide on reaction with lead nitrate gives a chalky white insoluble precipitate, while with ferrous nitrate does not give any precipitation.

Pb(NO3)2+2NH4OHPb(OH)2+2NH4NO3
(colourless) (chalky white ppt.)
