The difference between wire wound and carbon resistor are as follows ;
ADVANTAGES
1. Carbon composition resistors are cheap but the wire wound resistors are very costlier .
2. Carbon composition resistors are small in size but the wire wound resistors are large in size .
DISADVANTAGES
1. Carbon composition resistors are noisy whereas the wire wound resistors are not so sensitive to noise compared to carbon resistor .
2. Carbon composition resistors have small power dissipation capacity but the wire wound resistors are used in high power circuits .
