Division is a repeated subtraction.

For example: In $6 \div 2$ , we subtract $2$ from $6$ repeatedly till we get zero.
It means that we have to subtract $2$ from $6$ again and again till we reach $0$ .
$6 - 2 = 4$
$4 - 2 = 2$
$∴ 2 - 2 = 0$
The number of times( $3$ times) $2$ is subtracted from $6$ to reach $0$ is the value of $6 \div 2$ .
So, $∴ 6 \div 2 = 3$ .
