It is a process in which a small amount of DNA substance is isolated, and the variables of DNA elements are determined.
The technique was developed in the year 1984 by Jeffreys.
According to Jeffreys, each person possesses a unique pattern of minisatellite, in which the genes are repeated and do not perform any function. These are also known as VNTRs or variable number tandem repeats.
In the process of DNA fingerprinting, the samples of cells like hair, skin, and blood are taken, which comprise VNTRs.
These VNTRs, uniquely found in each individual, are recognized only through molecular analysis of DNA samples, that is, by DNA fingerprinting.
