Question

DNA sequencing provides a great deal of evolutionary relationship between organisms. Explain.

Open in App
Solution

Huge chunks of DNA and genetic information can be sequenced, and then compared. This way, strands of DNA or RNA or proteins exhibiting homologous sequences, or sequences with similar genes on them can be found. The genes are then sequenced to look for similarities and differences. Theoretically, the closer the evolutionary relationship, the less these similar gene structures should have changed in the intervening time.
