Question

Do all bonds have the same energy?

Open in App
Solution

Bond energy:

  1. Bond energy is the amount of energy released when 1mole of bonds are formed from the isolated gaseous atom.
  2. The bond energy of a molecule is the average bond dissociation energy of all the chemical bonds present in that compound.
  3. Hence, the bond strength between all the atoms in a molecule is not the same so the higher the bond strength of a bond between two atoms, the higher will be the bond energy.
  4. For example: in NaOH the bond energy of Na with O is different than the bond energy of O with H .
  5. Therefore, all bonds do not have the same energy.
