Question

Do alloys have high resistance or low resistance?
Do alloys have high resistivity or low resistivity?

Open in App
Solution

The higher resistivity and resistance in alloys as compared to the constituents is caused by an additional scattering mechanism of the electrons called "alloy scattering".

The reason for this is that the atomic ions of the different constituents in an alloy are, in general, not periodically arranged in the crystal lattice but their relative concentrations fluctuate statistically in the lattice.
