Question

Do bases also release H+ ions.
How to make out if the acid/base is strong or weak, without practically performing it.. Is there any method?

Solution

Bases do not release H+ but accept them. There are three definitions for a base:
  • Bases are those substances that can donate OH-
  • Bases are those substances that can accept H+
  • Bases are those substances that can donate lone pair of electrons
Without performing practical experiments, we cannot determine whether the acid/base is strong or weak. Refer the pH table for this. It is advisable to study important strong acids and bases.
