Question

Do cycloalkanes decolourise bromine water?

Open in App
Solution

Cycloalkanes:

  1. Cycloalkanes are saturated hydrocarbons in which the carbon atoms join with each other to form a ring-like structure.
  2. Bromine water is yellow in colour. when it is added to a solution of cycloalkanes the colour of the solution does not change.
  3. In cycloalkanes, carbon atoms are bonded with each other by single bonds, which are strong bonds and make the molecule more stable.
  4. Therefore, cycloalkanes do not decolourise bromine water.
