Question

Do free electrons travel to region of higher potential or lower potential?

Open in App
Solution

Force experienced by charge particle in electric field

F=qE

The electric field is always directed from higher potential (positive charge) to lower potential (negative charge).

Positive charge experiences a force in the direction of electric field.

Therefore, electrostatic force and hence direction of travel of electrons is from lower potential to region of higher potential.
