Do gram-negative rods produce spores?

Open in App
Solution

Gram-negative rods:

Gram-negative bacteria are resistant to a wide range of medications, and most antibiotics are becoming increasingly ineffective.

Spore:

The spore is a reproductive cell that can create a new individual without merging with another reproductive cell.

  1. With few exceptions, Gram-negative bacteria do not produce spores.
  2. Sporomusa ovata, for example, is a Gram-negative endospore-forming bacteria that belongs to a small group of Gram-negative bacteria that form endospores.
  3. On the other hand, most Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Clostridium tetani can produce spores.
