A lenticel is a porous tissue composed of cells with vast intercellular spaces found in the periderm of secondary thickening organs and the bark of dicotyledonous flowering plants' woody stems and roots.
Transpiration:
Transpiration is the transport of water through a plant and the evaporation of water from aerial portions such as leaves, stems, and flowers.
Lenticels are involved in gas exchange and transpiration.
Through the intercellular spaces between the complimentary cells, the lenticels connect the ambient air with the cortical tissue of the stem.
Lenticular transpiration accounts for only 0.1 percent of overall transpiration.
