Solution
Tympanum:
It is an external hearing structure found in animals like reptiles, mammals, birds, some insects, and some amphibians.
Its prime function is to pass the sound from the air to the ossicles within the middle ear.
It is a thin membrane sheet, which distinguishes the outer ear from the middle ear in humans.
It is witnessed in vertebrates, however, it is absent in fishes or Pisces.
Instead they possess unique compositions known as otoliths, which are formed of small calcium carbonate crystals that assist in hearing.
These otoliths help the fishes to detect any kind of vibration.
