Solution

Movements made by the plants:

  1. Plants show gradual movement in response to various external stimuli. They are called tropic movements or nastic movements. Different external stimuli to which a plant respond is light, light intensity, gravity, water, objects, temperature, change in temperature, chemicals, and turgor pressure.
  2. These movements can be either towards the stimulus, called positive tropism; or away from the stimulus in the opposite direction, called negative tropism. For example, the movement towards light is called positive phototropism (seen in shoots) and movement away from light is called negative phototropism (seen in roots).

Movement in animals are different from plants:

  1. Animals have the presence of a nervous system. They also have organs for locomotion that help them move from one place to another quickly.
  2. Plants do not have a nervous system or organs for locomotion. Thus they exhibit slow movement and it is mostly irreversible.
