Open in App
Solution

Endoplasmic reticulum :

  1. The endoplasmic reticulum is an intricate web of tubular membranes that is specifically found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells.
  2. The endoplasmic reticulum bearing ribosomes on its surface is called the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER).
  3. In the absence of ribosomes, they appear smooth and are called the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER).
  4. RER is frequently observed in the cells actively involved in protein synthesis and secretion.
  5. Prokaryotes do not possess a rough ER.
  6. The endoplasmic reticulum and other membrane-bound organelles are absent in prokaryotes.
