Do Prokaryotes have histones?

Open in App
Solution

Prokaryotic histones:

  1. Except for members of the Archaea domain, prokaryotes do not have histones. Histones are found mostly in eukaryotes.
  2. Chromosomes contain a specific kind of protein. Histones are proteins that attach to DNA, form chromosomes, and regulate gene activity.
  3. Gene control is greatly aided by these structures. A well-organized nucleus is not present in prokaryotic cells.
