Question

Do Pteridophytes reproduce asexually?

Open in App
Solution

Pteridophyta:

  1. Pteridophyta is a vascular plant that does not have any flowers or seeds which means the reproduction is hidden.
  2. They reproduce by releasing sperms instead of seeds.
  3. They reproduce by the formation of spores.
  4. When mature, sporangia, or clusters of capsular structures, are produced on the undersides of fern leaves.
  5. These structures are where meiotic division takes place, resulting in the formation of haploid (n) spores.
  6. The sporangia then extrudes these spores.
  7. Typically, it takes place when dry wind currents cause the capsules to actively snap, lofting the spores into the air.
