Question

Do the electrons excited from no. of antennae molecules comes back to their ground state one by one. After transfering the energy for the excitation of electron of forward pigment and then so on and so far, and in last of chlorophyll a molecule?

Solution

Dear student,
Antennae molecule absorbs higher energy or smaller wavelength from sunlight and since the energy is of higher frequency it can damage reaction centre therefore its energy has to be reduced by transferring its energy from one antennae molecule to the another antennae molecule. One antennae molecule absorbs light of higher energy, electrons gets excited and when they return to their ground state they release energy of longer wavelength which is transferred to another antennae molecule by fluorescence and itself goes to ground state . Similarly a chain of transferring of energy occurs till the energy is reduced so that it is sufficient to excite reaction centre without causing photo oxidative damage to the reaction centre.
