Biome

Biome is a large geographical area delimited by specific climatic zones. Both organic and inorganic components are similar in particular types of biomes. However, regional and local variations exist within each biome.

Reasons for variations in biome

As the sun rays fall directly over the tropics and obliquely over the temperate and the polar regions, different precipitation leads to the production of different biomes like deserts, coniferous forests, alpine tundra.
Variations in the physico-chemical factors like sunlight, temperature, soil $pH$, humidity affect the formation of various habitats within a biome.

Example of variations in grassland biome

The grassland biomes are usually found in the interiors of the continents. These biomes have seasonal variations consisting of hot summers and cold winters. Precipitation also varies depending on seasons. Tallgrass prairie are found in areas receiving higher precipitation. These areas show better biodiversity of grasses and shrubs. Short grass prairies and arid grasslands are found in areas receiving lower precipitation within the biome.
