Solar energy has a bright future in India due to the following factors:
- Sufficient sunlight to sustain the production of solar energy as the number of sunny days across a large geographical portion of the country is around 300. Projected production of solar power is around 20 GW by 2020.
- It requires less investment in infrastructure compared to other forms of energy. Thus, it is cheaper to produce.
- It can be utilised for rural electrification and irrigation through solar-powered water pumping systems.
- It is a non-polluting source of energy.
- Solar energy is fast becoming popular in rural and remote areas which in turn will be able to minimize the dependence of rural households on firewood and dung cakes and supply manure in agriculture.
Hence, I believe that India has vast prospects of solar energy
