It was during the medieval period that new styles of architecture like Dravida, Nagara,I ndo-Persian and others developed under the patronage of the rulers of the period-​
  • Miniature painting came into vogue during the Mughal period.​
  • Mughal emperor Humayun patronised artists, and brought Mir Sayyid Ali and Abdu Samad in his court, who developed the Mughal style of painting.​
  • During Akbar's reign painting competitions were organised in the royal institutes or Kharkhana.​
  • The stories of the Mahabharata were compiled into a series of paintings called Raznama by Daswant, who lived during the period of Akbar.​
  • The quality of paintings increased remarkably during the reign of Jahangir.​
  • There were painters from Gujarat, Kashmir, Deccan and others who influenced painting with their regional styles.​
  • Paintings were based on the themes of the puranas and stories of India and Persia.
