Do you think there is any such limitation in the trophic levels of a detritus food chain?

Solution

10% law:

  1. According to the 10% law, only 10 percent of the energy is transferred to each trophic level from the lower trophic level.
  2. Most of the energy is lost as heat.
  3. Therefore, this limits the number of trophic levels in a food chain.

Detritus food chain:

The detritus food chain (DFC) have the following features:-

  1. Starts with the detritus.
  2. The macro and micro organisms involved can derive energy from the dead remains of the members of any trophic level of the grazing food chain.
  3. Since there is no specific trophic level from which it derives energy, this is why it is not limited by 10% law.

For example: Dead leaves → Woodlouse → Blackbird
