Question

Does active transport require ATP?

Open in App
Solution

Active transport:

  1. Active transport is the movement of a chemical substance by the expenditure of energy in concentration or in electric potential across the plasma membrane.
  2. During active transport, substances move against the concentration gradient from a region of low concentration to an area of high concentration.
  3. This process is "active" because it requires the use of energy (usually in the form of ATP).
  4. This is the opposite of passive transport.
