Question

Does adding salt to vinegar make it more acidic?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Vinegar is slightly acidic due to the presence of acetic acid in it.
  2. Sodium chloride Nacl is common salt. Sodium chloride is a salt of strong acid, hydrogen chloride HCl and strong base, sodium hydroxide NaOH which is neutral in nature and has a pH of 7.
  3. Being neutral in nature common salt will not make vinegar more acidic or more basic as will not cause any change in the pH of vinegar.

So, adding salt to vinegar does not make it more acidic.
