Open in App
Solution

Algae:

  1. Algae are chlorophyll-containing, photosynthetic, aquatic, nucleus-containing organisms that have unicellular or multicellular structures.
  2. In algae, the plant body is the thallus (a form without root, stem, or leaves).
  3. They are usually marine or freshwater. Some algae can occur in moist habitats like tree trunks, moist soils, and rocks.
  4. Examples- green algae, golden algae, kombu, etc.

Algal growth:

  1. Algae generally perform photosynthesis in presence of light as they contain the photosynthetic pigment chlorophyll, carotenes, and xanthophylls.
  2. Thus, algal growth requires sunlight.
  3. Minerals, water, and carbon dioxide are other requirements for algal growth.
