Question

Does any metal float?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Normally materials that are denser than water (they have more mass per unit volume), such as metals will sink.
  2. In order to float , something just needs to have less density than water . Water is 1gpercm3 , so anything less than that will float.
  3. There are three metals that are light enough to do this, lithium, sodium and potassium , however , they are also highly reactive and basically explode when they touch water.
