Does both kidneys work simultaneously

Yes. both kidneys get the same amount of blood from kidney arteries. In normal kidneys, the level of blood filtration is equal on both side.
Both kidneys work together.
But if in some condition, one kidney got affected, the second kidney will taking over the activity of ill kidney.
