Question
Does coelenterates have body cavity?
Open in App
Solution
The members of the phylum Coelenterata include the cnidarians such as sea anemones, jellyfish,
obelia
etc.
They are diploblastic animals therefore, they do not have a coelom (fluid-filled body cavity lined by mesodermic tissues).
Instead, they have a gastrovascular cavity which is not a true body cavity.
This cavity is filled with the unspecialized cells known as mesoglial cells.
This cavity is meant for extracellular digestion and nutrient transport.
